After a stretch of decommitments from the 2015 class, USC Sunday pick one back on the board with a commitment from 3 star LB Ernest Hawkins (6-2 220) of Hartnell JC, CA. Hawkins made an official visit to USC Saturday and Sunday and committed to the Gamecocks Sunday night. He also considered Hawaii and Colorado.

“It was awesome,” Hawkins said of his weekend in Columbia. “The facilities, the stadium, I fell in love with it. They see me running the will and the mike (linebackers). It’s an honor (to play for Steve Spurrier and in the SEC), it’s something you dream of as a kid. I just want to take full advantage of it.”

Hawkins will sign with the Gamecocks on Wednesday, the first day of the signing period for junior college mid-year enrollees. He will have four years to play three.

After graduating from Dunbar High in Baltimore in 2012, Hawkins signed with UTEP but grayshirted because his SAT score was late coming thru. After the coaches at UTEP were fired he decommitted and stayed home for the 2013 season. He enrolled at Hartnell this fall and earned first team all conference honors. This season Hawkins had 56 tackles with 7.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Hawkins pushes USC’s commitment total for the 2015 class, including holdovers from 2014, to 27.
