Gamecocks set to host several prospects for camp

June 04, 2018

During the next two weeks, several South Carolina recruiting targets will stop by Columbia for the Will Muschamp Football Camp.

The Gamecocks are set to see prospects from 2019, 2020 and 2021 classes when action starts Tuesday morning. SEC Country will be on hand for each session during Week 1, which runs through Saturday.

The Gamecocks coaches will take a break Sunday before resuming with the youth camp on Monday. Their one-day high school camps continue on Tuesday, June 12. Week 2 also includes two lineman camp sessions, a pair of high school 7-on-7 tournaments and a specialists camp.

Which prospects will be written about on SEC Country? Below are those who’ve confirmed plans to visit during the 2018 Muschamp Camp season.

Tuesday

Three-star cornerback John Dixon (Tampa, Fla.) was among the standouts last summer. Now he’s ranked as the No. 33 cornerback in the Class of 2019, according to the 247Sports composite. Dixon (6-foot, 170) recently released a lead group that includes South Carolina, Alabama, Miami, Ohio State and Penn State.

D.J. Daniel will begin his two-day stay. The junior college prospect attends Georgia Military College, which has sent Dennis Daley and Jabari Ellis to South Carolina. Daniel, a 6-foot, 180-pound cornerback, also offers from Kentucky and Ole Miss.

A foursome of prospects will visit from McEachern High School (Powder Springs, Ga.). All three of the 2020 class have already been offered: 4-star wide receiver Javon Baker (6-1, 175), 4-star defensive tackle Jamil Burroughs (6-2, 280) and 3-star running back Jordon Simmons (5-10, 180). Quarterback Carlos Del Rio, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound 2021 prospect, has offers from Florida and Michigan.

Wednesday

A pair of teammates from Peach County High School (Fort Valley, Ga.) will be in town: 2020 4-star linebacker Sergio Allen and 2021 tackle T.J. Ferguson. Both have been offered.

Allen (6-1, 220) is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 2 inside linebacker in the country. Alabama, Auburn, Clemson and Georgia have also offered. Ferguson (6-4, 270) also lists offers from Georgia and Michigan.

Thursday

The Gamecocks are set to see 2020 quarterback Luke Doty, a 6-2, 190-pound 3-star from Myrtle Beach (S.C.) High School. He lists South Carolina in his lead group, along with North Carolina and North Carolina State, among others.

Another top in-state prospect from the Class of 2020, defensive tackle Alex Huntley, will make the short trip over to campus. The 6-4, 295-pound prospect is teammates at Columbia-Hammond School with Muschamp’s oldest son, Jackson.

Running backs coach Bobby Bentley will get an up-close look at 2022 running back Nehemiah Squire, who will attend Dillon (S.C.) High School.

Friday

Three-star linebacker commitment Jahmar Brown (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) pushed back his official visit one week, so it will begin on Friday and run through Sunday.

Three-star 2020 running back Tahj Gary (Atlanta, Ga.) will visit for the third time. Gary (5-9, 205) recently released a lead group which also includes Arkansas, Kentucky, North Carolina and Virginia Tech.

Saturday

Four-star defensive end Dante Walker (Riverdale, Ga.) will begin his official visit, which will run through next Monday. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound prospect has listed South Carolina and Tennessee as his top-2 options.

A week after visiting UCF and landing an offer, 2020 tackle commitment Issiah Walker will return to South Carolina. Walker (6-4, 265) is from Norland High School in Miami. Rivals recently named him a 4-star.

Three-star 2019 outside linebacker Jamie Pettway (Albany, Ga.) hasn’t been on campus since the 2017 spring game. Pettwy (6-3, 230) returns as the No. 49-ranked outside linebacker in the country. Louisville, Tennessee, Maryland, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt have offered.

South Carolina legacy Gabe Stephens, a 2021 defensive back from Mount Holly, N.C., is also slated to visit. North Carolina, Penn State, Syracuse and TCU have offered, too.
