Gamecocks sign South Florence 4-star QB LaNorris Sellers

December 23, 2022

221125_ACF_SoFlo_1h007.jpgOver the last two seasons, South Florence 4-star QB LaNorris Sellers (6-3 217) lit up football fields across the state culminating with a state championship and a Shrine Bowl victory this month. He announced Friday morning he will continue to display his skills in-state as he signed with Carolina after previous commitments to Syracuse and Virginia.

Sellers became the primary recruiting target of coach Beamer and then quarterbacks coach Marcus Satterfield during the season and Beamer offered him in late October. From there, Beamer and now new quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains made a strong push for Sellers with staying at home a major selling point.

“Just saying how I fit well in their offense and how he really wants me to stay home,” Sellers said earlier this month. “He (Beamer) liked what I was about, how I was on the field and off the field, how I could produce in their offense. They do like a pro-style scheme offense. Really just spreading the ball around, getting the ball in the other plays hands is the main thing.”

Moving the ball around and getting it into the hands of his playmakers is what Sellers does extremely well. Sellers finished the season with 2948 passing yards with 45 touchdowns, and 1338 yards rushing with 22 touchdowns. He accounted for 4286 yards and 67 total touchdowns.

Sellers said after his quick announcement Friday morning that being around several Carolina commitments at the Shrine Bowl last week, and hearing their pitch, also influence him. He said his decision came down to South Carolina, Syracuse, and Liberty.

Sellers did not make a visit to Carolina during the recruiting season, but he will be on campus soon. He plans to enroll in January so that he can start learning the system and compete in spring practice.
