Gamecocks signee Nick Neidert taken in MLB draft’s second round
June 9, 2015
The first two rounds of the Major League Baseball draft ended Monday with one South Carolina connection taken.
USC signee Nick Neidert, a right-handed prep star from Lawrenceville, Ga., was selected with the 60th overall pick by Seattle. Coach Chad Holbrook said last week that he expected to lose Neidert with such a high projection.
Neidert, who is already throwing a mid-90s fastball, was projected as a second-rounder and went where he was tabbed. The signing bonus assigned to the No. 60 slot is $1,025,900, according to Baseball America.
Rounds 3-10 commence at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Juniors Jack Wynkoop and Max Schrock could be taken then, with Wynkoop thought to be on his way to the pros and Schrock wrestling with his decision. Holbrook said last week that Schrock is leaning toward coming back for his senior year. Senior Kyle Martin could also be chosen.
Recruits Logan Allen, Braden Webb, Cody Morris and perhaps football recruit D.J. Neal could hear their names called on Tuesday.
