Gamecocks still in the mix for North Carolina commitment

Ryan Jones and Eric Douglas have the same lunch period, and most of their classes at Mallard Creek High School are on the same floor.
Jones, who committed to the Tar Heels since February, sees Douglas plenty of times throughout the school day. At 6-foot-5, 280 pounds, the three-star offensive lineman is hard to miss.
“He’s always says, ‘Go Cocks’ or something like that. He’ll tap me and say something like that. He’s always, 24/7 in my ear,” Jones said.
Douglas committed to South Carolina in April. He’s been “hounding” Jones and several of their Mallard Creek teammates ever since.
Jones, a four-star athlete, is being recruited to play wide receiver for the Gamecocks.
“Eric is definitely bothering me a lot, been in my ear a lot. I’ll still visit. I say we’ll see in December where we’ll finish at,” Jones said.
The interest in the Gamecocks is mutual. Jones visited Columbia earlier this spring for the first cookout event put on by Coach Will Muschamp.
“Of course, the whole SEC thing, it’s the best conference. I really like how Coach (Bryan)McClendon and even Coach Muschamp,” Jones said. “Also, they have a big need for receivers. I see how I could help them out. I’m just taking it slow.”
Tennessee and Georgia are also in the mix.
“They’re on my officials,” Jones said. “I’m going to take an official to Georgia. I know Georgia, for sure.”
But for the moment, he remains committed to playing college ball in Chapel Hill, N.C.
“I’ve been going to their spring game since the second grade,” Jones said. “From an academic standpoint, once you graduate, all the opportunities you have with that North Carolina degree. Even if you don’t go to the NFL, you’ll still be pretty set.”
