One may not be able to list South Carolina among the leaders right now but the Gamecocks do have a shot to land four-star defensive tackle Antwuan Jackson 6'3" 285lbs (Ellenwood, Ga./Cedar Grove). Jackson was back on campus on Saturday for the second Junior Day of the spring for the Gamecocks.
“I’ve always been impressed with South Carolina,” Jackson said. “I’ve been here at least 30 times and they always make a good impression.”
Saturday was the first time that Jackson was able to meet new co-defensive coordinator Jon Hoke in person. The two have interacted on Twitter from time to time, but Jackson appreciated being able to put the face with the name.
“Coach Hoke is a great person,” Jackson said. “It was my first time meeting him. He just came from the NFL, which is a big thing. You want to make it to the NFL and he’s an NFL coach. I just met him and he already knew so much about me.”
Auburn has been trending hard recently in the Crystal Ball for Jackson. In-state Georgia is a school that has a lot of positive momentum and both Alabama and Clemson are major players. But South Carolina is holding on as well.
“South Carolina definitely has a chance,” Jackson said. “They were one of the first schools to offer me. I always thank them for giving me the opportunity to play here.”
Don’t expect a decision anytime soon though. Jackson will continue to take some visits this spring and over the summer. He’ll take some official visits this fall as well before making a decision.
“I’m thinking about narrowing my schools down near the beginning of the fall,” Jackson said. “I’ll make my decision between the fall and signing day and take some official visits.”
