Gamecocks take the next step with Lonergan

The Gamecocks hosted Lonergan for a visit last weekend for their spring game. The two sides have had a strong attraction for one another since early in the recruiting process. Lonergan said earlier in the spring a big draw to him from USC was offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield and his pro-style offense.
“I really like it. I think it’s a good pro-style offense that will get me developed for the next level,” Lonergan said.
According to MaxPreps, last season Lonergan passed for 3392 yards, completing 63% of his passes, with 32 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. For his career, he’s passed for 6239 yards, 57 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He’s also rushed for 993 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Lonergan is also a big-time baseball prospect considered to be top-20 quality from a draft standpoint. He wants to play both sports in college, but whichever school lands him will also have to sweat out the overtures from a Major League Baseball team.
