Gamecocks targets head to Shrine Bowl

Several of South Carolina’s remaining targets from the Class of 2018 will be in Spartanburg, S.C., this week for the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.

Non-committed

Four of the participants in this week’s all-star game between North and South Carolina are prospects for the Gamecocks class.

• 3-star OG Jovaughn Gwyn, Harding University HS (Charlotte, N.C.)
• 5-star DE K.J. Henry, West Forsyth HS (Clemmons, N.C.)
• 3-star ATH Bryce Thompson, Dutch Fork HS (Irmo, S.C.)
• 4-star DT Rick Sandidge, Concord HS (Concord, N.C.)

Spartanburg (S.C.) High School linebacker Connor Shugart has been offered a preferred walk-on spot at South Carolina. Air Force, Army, Charleston Southern, Duquesne, Furman, Gardner-Webb and Mercer have offered scholarships.

Four-star linebacker Channing Tindall, who suffered a shoulder injury during his senior season at Spring Valley High School (Columbia, S.C.), will not play in the game. South Carolina is in the mix with Georgia, Auburn and Florida.

Committed

Three Gamecocks commitments are playing for the South Carolina team this year.

• 4-star QB Dakereon Joyner, Fort Dorchester HS (North Charleston)
• 3-star C Hank Manos, Chapin HS (Chapin)
• 3-star WR Darius Rush, C.E. Murray HS (Greeleyville)

Lugoff-Elgin (S.C.) High School offensive lineman Wyatt Campbell was selected for the game, but won’t play because of his recent surgery to repair a torn meniscus.
