POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. - Class of 2014 four-star defensive end Dante Sawyer 6-foot-3, 260-pounder (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett) recruitment is finally coming to a close.
Sawyer, who will announce a decision on Dec. 17, his Birthday, had extra visitors in town to watch his North Gwinnett team defeat McEachern Friday night as South Carolina coaches G.A. Mangus, who is his recruiter of record, and defensive line coach Deke Adams took in his game.
Sawyer took his first ever visit to South Carolina last month for the Gamecocks win over Mississippi State.
"It was crazy. I loved it," the nation's No. 9 weakside defensive end said. "I love being in Columbia. I'm going to go back for my official visit. It opened my eyes a lot seeing everything they have to offer."
The 6-foot-3, 260-pounder has developed a strong relationship with the Carolina coaches.
"I think Coach Mangus is here tonight. We're real cool," Sawyer said. "I treat them like family over there."
The Gamecocks also have an unofficial recruiter in their corner as Sawyer is being worked hard by South Carolina linebacker commitment Bryson Allen-Williams (Ellenwood, Ga./Cedar Grove).
He gave his thoughts on the other two programs.
Auburn: "I just really like their program right and and what they're doing with coach Gus Malzahn. They're doing a great job up there."
Missouri: "I went out there during the summer and it was live. I liked the campus and everything about it."
Sawyer offered little insight into the factors that will go into his final decision.
"It's how my parents feel about it. I'm going to just talk it over with them and go from there," he said.
