One way need to go the Grad Transfer Portal to see if we can pull one or two with height & speed to get us over the hump.

Have to see what skills the incoming guys bring, my guess is whoever we get for an OC May be able to bring someone along.

Our “skill guy” recruiting has pretty much been an abysmal failure the last couple of years,

Agreed.  I think they put the effort in but we have Shi, who is a career #2 guy at best and then the rest.  Some may develop but there's nobody that will come in and take over a game.  Some schools, clemsin, Bama, LSU have multiple targets.  Some also have a very dependable TE and that would help RH settle in too with a sure handed big man.  Maybe Ortre adds some #s and becomes a TE.

I think a change in the offense could help. It seemed like there was no scheming or set up plays to get guys open in space, an OC that knows how to do that should be able to get better numbers out of lesser talent. With better numbers come better recruits. No high 4* or 5* WR want to play for an offense that scored one touch down ever 3 games.

Ger-Cari Caldwell is 6'04" with speed.

He would make a nice addition to the class.

There were and still is several very capable WR types in this state with a lot of speed we could have got. The kid from Dutch Fork ( going to UT I believe) and several others around the state going to the likes of ecu, va. tech and others. Really weird how some of our in state kids didnt even get a sniff from us.

Ortre was very good his Freshman year pre-injury.  I am not sure how he has recovered as the offense really never game him any opportunity.  He is a big body and sure handed, possession type receiver.  He is not going to kill you with speed, but can high point a ball and can certainly be a weapon for the next coordinator.  I am not sure why he did not get more touches this year, but I am really not sure about anything our offense did this season.

In my book a WR doesnt have to be 6ft 4in and have 4.4 speed. You can take a kid that has the 4.4 speed around 5ft 9in to 6ft 1in that runs true routes and have a hell of a weapon.  Now he also needs to be able to catch the damn ball. See guys like refro from klempzun or a others that are undersized but runs beautiful routes. They are almost unstoppable.

Joe Burrow arrived late to LSU last year and didn't have much time to develop with his receivers.

2018 completion percentage of 57.8%

LSU coaches challenged Burrow and his receiver corps to a "10,000 catch" summer and they put in the work to develop.

2019 completion percentage 78.3%

We need a cure for our "dropsies"

Yup, big time. They made light on TV how many drops we have had this season and the number was staggering.

I think it a misconception that the WR position is like running back where true freshmen can make an immediate impact.  It rarely happens.  It’s an extremely complicated position to learn.  Because of that I’m hoping Xavier Leggett can make a big jump next year.  Maybe Josh Vann can finally figure it out next year.

Not sure where slow/ small all comes in to play. Tyquan, and Legette were both highly recruited 3 stars. 6'3" and 6"0" that have good speed. Keveon Mulllins was a 4 star from Tenn. at 6'2"

Josh Vann is only 5"10" but he was a 4 star due to his speed and hands. It will be great to get OrTre Smith back. He is a 6'4" 4 star that is really fast.

And Shi has said he is coming back. Throw in Hart, Davis, Terrell, and Adkins and we have plenty of receivers. Even got 2 good looking commits, Wyman (4star) and Stewart (3).

I just hope if B-Mac stays and goes back to full time receivers coach, he can get these guys trained up to get open. He seemed to do good with the WRs before he became OC. We just need an OC that can get the most out of the talent we got.

One problem I have with our WRs over the years is they dont block well on the tunnel and bubble screens. Don't get me wrong, we have had some great WRs but we really need to work on their blocking skills.

Clemson and Bama receivers run wide open all day.  Its not because they juke defenders to get open.  It’s because defenders are terrified of them and don’t want to get burned so they give them plenty of cushion.  It’s not what they did, it’s what they could do that gets them open.

Our guys don’t elicit that kind of fear in opposing secondaries and so they get covered up.  Its all about speed and an ability to get DBs turned around and in bad position.  It can’t really be coached unfortunately.  You can coach a guy to make a strong cut and get open for a second but an ability to catch ball after ball with no one within 10 yards is all about talent and respect.  Hopefully some of these young guys have it.
