The week in quotes

... “We don’t want him running around and every time he gets hit, he looks like he is deep pain.” – Steve Spurrier discussing QB Connor Shaw’s bruised right shoulder blade

... “We’re looking forward to getting back home here at Williams-Brice Stadium. As our fans know, we’ve won (20 of 23) here, so we should feel very comfortable hear at home and we’re looking forward to playing the first of three in a row and hopefully get our offense a little untracked. Hopefully we can pitch it around a little bit better than we have.” - Spurrier

... “I’m feeling good. I can be way better in all areas. I’m feeling 100 percent, out there having fun, enjoying playing football, and enjoying game time.” – Senior linebacker Shaq Wilson, who had eight tackles and an interception against Vanderbilt

... “As a unit, we had a lot of mess-ups. There is a lot of room for improvement. I feel like we have been addressing those needs this week in practice.” – Senior center T.J. Johnson on the team’s offensive line play

... “I think we need to improve on a lot of things, but I will start by saying we are 1-0, 1-0 in the SEC. It’s the first day so we have to get better, just coming together and playing as one unit as an o-line, try our best to play each play to the fullest and try to make a lot of blocks.” - Sophomore tackle Cody Gibson

What Vegas says

“I have found through the years that oddsmakers always underreact (to first week results). They are very, very diligent about not getting away from their mathematical power ratings, their computer ratings about these teams, especially early in the season. No, South Carolina didn’t look great. They did get a win in an SEC environment on the road. You can kind of tell that by the line this week. East Carolina beat Appalachian State, which I think is No. 5 in the FCS rankings, so that was a good, solid team. We saw what some other FCS teams can do. I think Vegas looked at that and, even though East Carolina played well, their power rankings right now on South Carolina say they are a three-touchdown favorite. They are not going to get off that, even though South Carolina did not look great.” ¬– Gaming industry journalist David Purdum (@DavidPurdum on Twitter) (more)
