THE SERIES

Carolina leads the all-time series vs. Missouri, 14-7, and are 4-5 in Columbia, Mo., against the Tigers. Last season, the Gamecocks won three of four meetings with Missouri, taking 2-of-3 games in a May series in Founders Park and winning, 4-2, in the opening round of the SEC Tournament in Hoover on May 22. Carlos Cortes had a walk-off home run in a 1-0 win in South Carolina on May 13, 2018.

TRIPLE YOUR TRIPLES

South Carolina had three triples on the night in the 10-3 win over Charleston Southern on April 23, two by freshman Brady Allen. The Gamecocks had back-to-back triples in the third inning as Allen and classmate Josiah Sightler each reached to start the inning. The last Gamecock to have two triples in a game was Lonnie Chisenhall against Western Kentucky on Feb. 10, 2007. The last time Carolina had three triples in a game was on March 4, 2005 vs. Pepperdine in Minneapolis, Minn. The school record for triples in a game is five set on March 17, 1986 against The Citadel.

BERRYHILL CATCHES FIRE

Redshirt sophomore catcher Luke Berryhill hit his 10th home run of the season, a two-run shot, in the 10-3 win over Charleston Southern on April 23. He carries a 21-game reached base streak into the Missouri series and is hitting .316 with three doubles and three home runs in his last 10 games.

UP NEXT

Carolina will take the midweek off for finals and return to the diamond next Friday (May 3) to start a three-game series against Vanderbilt at Founders Park. Friday's game starts at 7 p.m.

M4 | The Gamecocks go 1-2-3 in the fourth. Carolina 5, Missouri 4

M5 | Nothing doing for the Gamecocks in the fifth. Carolina 5, Missouri 4

T6 | We retake the lead as Campbell's sacrifice fly scores Eyster! Carolina 7, Missouri 6

B6 | Vierling's bloop single scores a run and ties the game at 7.

E6 | Bridges ends the sixth with a pair of strikeouts. We're tied at 7 moving into the seventh.

M7 | We stretch at Taylor Stadium with the game tied at 7.

B7 | Zimmerman's 2-run home run gives Missouri a 9-7 lead.

B7 | Carolina makes a pitching change. Harley in for Bridges. Missouri has a runner on first with no one out and leads 9-7.

We are in a weather delay in CoMo. Missouri leads 9-7 in the top of the eighth inning.

FINAL | Missouri 9, Carolina 7. The game is called after seven innings due to weather and SEC rules on resumption by 6 p.m. Carolina hosts Vandy Friday at 7 p.m.

Sounds like they have called the game, and Missouri wins it 9-7 in a weathered-shortened 7-inning game, and sweeps the series. That's all 3 games where we were in them for substantial portions of the games, only to fall apart in late innings when our bullpen struggled to contain the Tigers. In Game #1, it was tied 2-2 in the bottom 6th, but Mizzou takes a 1-run lead, and then adds 2 more in the bottom 7th, to win going away 5-2.

In Game #2, it looks like we were totally dominated, and in truth we were, in a 11-0 white-wash, but it was actually 1-0 Mizzou in the bottom 7th, until we totally imploded giving up 8 runs to kill any chances.

Now today, we actually have the lead this time, but are unable to hold it before giving up 3 quick runs ahead of the weather.

IMO, we just need to use the rest of this season as scrimmaging practice, and coach, coach, coach the players to learn how to hit and pitch, because they surely do not know how against SEC competition. We don't really have much left of the season to salvage, anyways. Start building for a more competitive team for next season....
