Florida A&M is not a good team but we haven't played in like forever. This may be like a season-opening game for us again. Hopefully we play well - the SEC schedule comes right on its heels, and we'll need to snap back in shape pretty quickly.....

Apparently we'll only be dressing 9 players for today's game - the following players will not dress for today:

TJ Moss

Jalyn McCreary

Nathan Nelson

Alanzo Frink

Keyshawn Bryant

A good bit of our rebounding will be missing today....

6-8 Freshman Forward Ja'Von Benson makes his debut with the team due to the shortage of players, and performs fairly well in first half action, with 6 points including a 3-ptr., and 4 rebounds. We'll gladly take all the production he can give us.

The projections had us winning this game by upwards of 20 points, but we take a slim 38-35 lead into the halftime break. Looks like another nail-biter fight to the finish for the Gamecocks. Unless we choose to come out for the 2nd half with our hair on fire....

@ConwayGamecock... where were you seeing those 20 point predictions?  Other than vs. OK, they’ve been quite competitive.  Surprised to hear that, especially given their showing vs. GA Tech, and us being off for almost 1 full month.

Regardless... glad to see Benson ballin’ today. He and Lawson have looked great.  Hannibal has had moments (though I’ve seen a few plays where he was somewhere in the fog), and I like Minaya’s play too.

CBS Sports had us favored by 19 today.....

they use Sportsline.com, or William Hill Sportsbooks, or both....

Florida A&M has the lowest NET rating of any opponent on our schedule this season with exception to 0-10 South Carolina State, who we had to cancel against. USC State has a 329 NET, and FAMU has a 303 NET rating. If we lose to them today, that will be a very bad loss on our record this season....

Good heavens... I’m not a betting guy, but I’d have taken A&M on that one.  (Nothing against the ‘Cocks, but one month off, and an A&M team that’s been quite competitive in most of their contests?  Seems easy to me)..

oh well...

Trey Anderson has been earning his time today.  Hasn’t been much in the scoring column, but solid play overall.  I wonder if we’ll see more of him in the future?  (Doubt it... we’re too deep as a team.  But still.)

We may depending on how long those other players will be out. Unless games get cancelled/postponed, our schedule is supposed to pick up now with conference games ahead, and start playing every 3-4 days from here on out. Also may see more of Benson.....

Well, a “W” is a “W”.  I like what we saw today from Woods, Benson, Anderson, and Minaya. Of course Cousinard and Lawson were solid as always.

Those 1st three names were particularly noteable.  Would hope they all continue to see more minutes, as the play when short handed (in my mind) warrants being rewarded.

Gamecocks win over Florida A&M 78-71 to improve to 2-2. AJ Lawson led the way with 25 pts and 5 rebounds. Jermaine Couisnard added 15 pts, 6 boards, and 5 assists, and Justin Minaya chipped in a double-double with 10 pts and 10 rebounds.

The Gamecocks next host their SEC opener against Texas A&M Wednesday at 9:00 pm....

Not good. Couisnard limping off the court. Hope he's ok.
^^THIS.

Our B-team vs. FAMU's A-team because of the 'rona.

We wanted to play despite the 'rona and got the win.

A pretty good testament to the depth of Frank's squad this year.

Also a good confidence-building game for AJ.
