Gill getting interest from the Tar Heels? Really? Sorry to see him go but can hardly blame him if that is the case...
Just a few days after being given permission to speak to other schools about a potential transfer, USC freshman forward Anthony Gill already has a fairly long list of potential suitors.
Gill has drawn interest from North Carolina, N.C. State, Virginia, Wake Forest, Ohio State, Georgia Tech, Boston College and Georgia. USC coach Frank Martin did not put any restrictions on what schools Gill can or cannot talk to.
Indications are Gill would prefer to play somewhere within three or four hours of his home in Charlotte. Virginia is widely thought to be Gill’s top choice, although a source indicated North Carolina is also an intriguing option to him.
We have also been informed the reason Damontre Harris has not been given the same freedom as Gill to talk to other schools is because of a precautionary measure by Martin. From the beginning Martin made it clear he understands some of the players he inherited may want to look around, but he still wants to make sure there isn’t and hasn’t been any tampering by third parties or other schools before he turns them loose.
It is important to note Martin isn’t accusing any school or schools of tampering. He’s simply making sure the appropriate steps are taken to ensure the process is handled in a credible manner.
With that being said, the source we talked to said it is highly unlikely Gill or Harris will be back with the Gamecocks next season. The source said the door hasn’t been slammed shut, but Martin is more inclined to let players that don’t want to be in his program leave. So long as there hasn’t been any improper recruiting or tampering those players will be allowed to go to any school they want.
