Good news at running back; offers out

December 08, 2017

Injury update

LaVonte Valentine, the speed in South Carolina’s thunder and lightning running back commitment duo, received some good news about his recently repaired ACL.

Valentine tweeted that his recovery “freaked out” the doctor, because of “how much I could bend my leg and straighten it.” The 3-star from Melbourne, Fla., has “full range of motion,” too.

“On top of that, it’s only been eight weeks and I’m already walking,” he wrote.

That’s good news for all parties, because Valentine is on track to enroll at South Carolina in January. Three-star Deshaun Fenwick, who’s also committed to the Gamecocks, is on track to arrive in January, too. He, of course, is the lightning portion of the twosome.

Another option

South Carolina extended a preferred walk-on offer to one of the top running backs in the state’s Class of 2018: Chapman High School’s D.J. Twitty.

Twitty (6-foot, 215) currently lists scholarship offers from Limestone and Campbell.

As a senior, Twitty rushed for 2,072 yards and 32 touchdowns. As a junior, he rushed for 2,426 yards and 24 touchdowns.

Standard offer out

Also on Thursday, South Carolina dispensed a standard offer to 2019 defensive end Colby Wooden. The 6-3, 225-pound prospect attends Archer High School in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Auburn, Georgia, Duke and Georgia Tech have also offered Wooden, who’s listed by the 247Sports composite as the No. 27 strongside defensive end in the Class of 2019.
