•UPDATED: Wesley Green contacted the AJC around 11 p.m. Friday to say “I’m still trying to work out something with UGA. I’m trying to get down there on Saturday or Sunday.”

After Lorenzo Carter, the biggest announcement that UGA fans will be waiting to hear on signing day has to do with Wesley Green.

The 4-star cornerback from M.L. King High School will decide between UGA and South Carolina.

However, UGA may have suffered a setback in this fierce recruiting battle on late Friday.

Green told the AJC that he did not leave for his official visit to UGA on Friday, and may not make the recruiting trip altogether.

“I don’t think I will be able to go to Georgia; I have a family emergency,” Green said. “I wanted to go but something happened with my (family).”

Depending on Green’s family situation, he could go to UGA on Saturday or Sunday, even for a few hours. But it’s definitely a blow to the Bulldogs with having a chance to put the full-court press on Green on the final weekend before signing day.

Green originally committed to South Carolina last summer but backed off because he wasn’t hearing much from the Gamecocks. However, South Carolina defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward has rebuilt a strong relationship, and Green even named the Gamecocks as his leader after taking an official visit there two weeks ago.

Green told the AJC on Friday that he has not committed to South Carolina — and he has not made a final decision between the Gamecocks and UGA. Green said he already knew a lot about the Bulldogs after taking unofficial visits there.
