Graduate transfer QB Thomas Sirk bound for East Carolina
April 07, 2017
During last weekend’s spring game, South Carolina hosted Duke graduate transfer quarterback Thomas Sirk for an official visit.
On Friday, Sirk tweeted that he would play his final season at East Carolina.
Sirk has one season of eligibility remaining, and he’ll arrive to Greenville, N.C., with a much better shot of winning the Pirates’ starting quarterback job.
The spot was vacated by Philip Nelson, who threw for 400 yards against South Carolina last fall in Williams-Brice Stadium.
Sophomore Jake Bentley has a tight grip on South Carolina’s No. 1 spot. However, the Gamecocks were in the market for another quarterback because of Brandon McIlwain’s transfer.
Junior Michael Scarnecchia, South Carolina’s only other returning quarterback with any experience, has played in just 1 game during his college career.
