This part really angers me:

"Because of what Marcus means to all of us, many people have come forward with ideas and suggestions to assist him and his family as they begin the rehab process. While we appreciate everyone's intent, it is important to remember that Marcus remains a student-athlete. Therefore, it is not permissible to conduct fundraisers, provide donations or use his name or image on any promotional item."

The NCAA- which makes millions off of these kids- is so greedy and hypocritical that it just burns me up. These athletes risk and sacrifice everything, and when one of them faces a horrendous injury that could change the trajectory of their whole life and impede their chance to use their gifts and talents to support their own families, the NCAA proudly hops on its moral high horse. I'm not angry at Tanner- he is just the messenger. It is the NCAA that exploits these kids and then warns of rule violations when one of them goes down and people naturally want to help.

Here is full letter many of you probably already got:

Dear Gamecocks:

I learned a great lesson this week. The emotions surrounding athletics don't change from being a coach to being an administrator.

I have been around student-athletes all my life and know how hard they work to realize their dream of competing in front of thousands of fans in the arena and in front of millions more watching on television. I was heartbroken to see the devastating injury occur to Marcus Lattimore last Saturday.

While that feeling in the pit of my stomach still hasn't gone away, it has at least been tempered by another feeling. A feeling of pride ? pride in seeing the resolve of our team to keep their emotions in balance to finish the job, winning the game as Marcus would have wanted them to; pride in the sportsmanship displayed by the Tennessee team as they paid respect to our team captain and leader; pride in knowing that we have a tremendous athletics training staff and doctors and a top-notch facility to care for and rehab our injured players; and pride in the overwhelming outpouring of support, both by Gamecock Country, as witnessed at the rally on Monday, and by others across the nation, most of whom have never met Marcus, but know what he represents - his character and his integrity. I don't know that I've ever been more proud to be a Gamecock.

While Marcus is at the forefront of all of our thoughts and prayers, it's important to consider all the student-athletes from across all of our sports, who work tirelessly to reach their goals. Most are not as well known as Marcus, but many have had their own physical setbacks, which we often attribute to being just "part of the game." They spend countless hours in the weight room, meeting room, training room, practice fields, classrooms and labs, all with the goal of representing the University of South Carolina on the field of competition. We appreciate and respect each and every one of them for what they add to our University.

Because of what Marcus means to all of us, many people have come forward with ideas and suggestions to assist him and his family as they begin the rehab process. While we appreciate everyone's intent, it is important to remember that Marcus remains a student-athlete. Therefore, it is not permissible to conduct fundraisers, provide donations or use his name or image on any promotional item. We appreciate how much everyone wants to be a part of his comeback. You can show your support by sending a card or letter (but not gifts) to Marcus Lattimore, c/o South Carolina Athletics, Rice Athletics Center, 1304 Heyward Street, Columbia, SC 29208. Thank you.

Go Gamecocks!

Sincerely,

Ray
