Hank Manos prepares for final high school wrestling event

May 31, 2017

One more wrestling tournament

The final chapter of Hank Manos‘ high school wrestling career will be written next month when he and the rest of the country’s best grapplers head to Disney World.

From June 11-15, Manos will wrestle for Team South Carolina in the AAU Scholastic Duals at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports complex in Florida.

“I’ve done some national individual tournaments with some great wrestlers from other states, but this is a duals tournament made up of teams from each state with only state champions and placers,” Manos said. “It should be some incredible competition.”

Manos, a 3-star center who’s committed to play football at South Carolina, is a state heavyweight champion from Chapin High School. Because he’s on track to join the Gamecocks in January, the event next month will be his last competition as a high school wrestler.

Since South Carolina’s OL/DL Camp is split over the two days before the beginning of the AAU tournament, Manos won’t be in Columbia for either of the sessions.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Manos is the No. 12 center in the Class of 2018. He committed to South Carolina in March over offers from Duke, North Carolina State and Wake Forest.

At The Opening in Charlotte, Manos measured 6-foot-4.5 and 270 pounds. He ran 5.43 in the 40-yard-dash and 4.71 in the shuttle. His power ball throw (39 feet, 5 inches) and vertical jump of more than 27 inches helped him record an 80.40 SPARQ rating.

That rating was sixth highest among offensive linemen who registered a score at the camp in Charlotte earlier this spring.

OL recruit heading south

Harry Miller, one of the handful of 2019 offensive linemen to land an offer from South Carolina, isn’t sure what he’ll have time to do on the recruiting trail this summer.

A good portion of his time this summer will be devoted to his third mission trip to Nicaragua.

“It’s a world free of football. It’s just working with people and it’s a great experience,” Miller said.

The 6-4, 310-pound offensive tackle from Buford (Ga.) High School already has plenty of options to go experience football at the college level.

Along with South Carolina, Miller lists offers from Florida, Michigan, Mississippi State, Oregon, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech. He’s visited Clemson, North Carolina and Virginia Tech.

Out of the 360 students in his class at Buford, Miller is ranked second.
