Hayden Hurst throws support behind Will Muschamp, writes coach ‘turned my life around’

Will Muschamp joined the Gamecocks at a rather crucial juncture for tight end Hayden Hurst.

At the moment, the coach is somewhat embattled, needing a win against a tough mid major opponent and then one upset in two tries just to reach a bowl in his fourth season. But Hurst, now with the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL, has his coach’s back.

In his first year on campus, Hurst was playing wide receiver as a former minor-league baseball pitcher in his early 20s. He only caught eight passes for 106 yards, only a few years after the yips ended his career on the diamond, which led to a battle with anxiety and depression.

Not only is he a great coach, he is a better man. I’m a product of coach. He brought out the best in me on the field, helping me become the player I am today, and off it also. He completely turned my life around at SC. Love coach and will always be a Muschamp guy @CoachWMuschamp https://t.co/AGmQfhuxp3

I'm sure hes a good guy, but at some point, he needs to be a winning guy too. That's what big boy football is all about.

Great to read the support from Hayden concerning Muschamp.  However, winning is what counts in corperate, business and sports sadly.

I agree that Muschamp is a stand up man and I think he really cares about his players.  I respect that he helps them and coaches them in life as well as football.  As others have said, at some point, there needs to be more wins.  I don't want a coach that has no morals by any means, but I also don't want a great guy that barely gets us to a bowl game.
