HC Shane Beamer Sunday conference call Quotes
Nov. 07, 2021
Beamer: Team played with "extra effort" and playing w/only one penalty and no turnovers is "fantastic".
Beamer on performance: Felt like we were dominant at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball .... But need to be better in red zone, better on 3rd down and staying on blocks.
Beamer: Players of the Game: Offense: Jason Brown, Defense: Damani Staley/Cam Smith (could have been any of 11, 12 or 13 guys) Special Teams: Nick Barrett/Mo Kaba/Parker White, goes on to say how comical it is that White is not a semifinalist for Groza Award.
Beamer on starting QB: I'm not going to be answering a ton of questions about that position. Obviously, Jason Brown was our player of the game, but we're not there yet. (Goes on to say that Zeb Noland was healthy enough to practice).
Beamer on running game scheme: We did run more power and counter last night. Teams had some success running counter against FL and so we ran that. We still ran some zone and we want to be multiple.
Beamer on recruiting: We had a lot of momentum and energy leading into the season. Then the recruits can see the way your team competes and cares for each other. They can see the atmosphere. They can see we're making progress.
Beamer on what impressed him most about QB Jason Brown: His understanding of the offense. Simple things like a mishandled snap that Jason didn't panic on and ran the ball where it was designed to go (w/the RB).
Beamer on how Gamecocks closed down FL big plays after 1st qtr: Pass rush helped. Biggest thing was executing. There were two of them (chunk pass plays) in the 1st qtr and that was b/c we wanted to commit our FS Foster to defend the run.
