Our team has done very well through six games despite being very short handed. Carrera missed three games leaving us with only 8 scholarship players. We now have him back and we will have Chatkevicius for our next game. Bruce should be joining the team soon and if Geathers is not red shirted we should get him back in Jan.

These additional bodies are badly needed as we suffered severe foul trouble in two of our games and with very little help on the bench this is a major problem.

I think the strength of our team to date is our rebounding and FT shooting. These are two much improved areas over last season. Our big weakness has been turnovers. If we can keep our strenghts and improve our TO problem we have a chance to have a much better season than most people suggested.

Our schedule gets much tougher so it is still too early to determine exactly the kind of season we are going to have. We should know much more after our trip to SJU and the clemson game Sunday. So far, so good and it will be great to have a much deeper bench.

WR Ellington working out with SC basketball team

(AP)—South Carolina two-sport standout Bruce Ellington is working out with the basketball team, a few days after catching two touchdown passes in the Gamecocks’ 27-17 victory at Clemson.

First-year coach Frank Martin had said Ellington would not rejoin the basketball team until after the football team’s bowl game. Ellington was the basketball team’s leading returning scorer from last season.

This would be his second season playing both football and basketball. Ellington played only basketball as a freshman.

The Gamecocks (5-1) play at St. John’s on Thursday night as part of the Big East/SEC Challenge. They return home to face Clemson on Sunday.
