Here’s where Gamecock basketball is predicted to finish in the SEC this year

Oct. 19, 2021

The South Carolina men’s basketball team was voted to finish 11th in the Southeastern Conference in a preseason media poll the SEC released Tuesday. Frank Martin’s Gamecocks finished 12th in the conference (6-15, 4-12 SEC) last year during a season that included multiple COVID-19 stoppages. USC brings in nine new players this season as Martin and the Gamecocks try to get back to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2017. No Gamecocks were selected to the first-team or second-team preseason All-SEC teams.

I was thinking we would be picked anywhere from 10-14, so this is pretty expected. I think we can be better than 11th, but we'll see. Either way, I'm ready for basketball!

Last season we were picked 8th, and finished 12th. Hopefully we reverse that trend this season.....

Seems about right unfortunately.  I could see us moving up a spot or two depending on how well these players mesh and getting hot at the right time.  Maybe I'm overly optimistic though.

All I'm going to say at this point is... Don't sleep on this team.  We've got some core players returning, like Cousinard and Keyshawn.  We've got size out the wazoo with Leveque, Minott, Woodley, and 7'0" Josh Gray.  Oh yeah, then we also picked up a guy who absolutely torched us while playing for Wichita (Erik Stevens).  Plus If Devin Carter shapes up to be the player that I think he can be... I think USC is going to make some waves against some very good SEC competition this year.
