Born and reared in Cola, SC.  Parents were Gamecocks, so was I until I trekked off to Va Tech.  Graduated in '88 and it was a fun ride while Frank was there.  Attended the '99 Sugar Bowl and it was a great game for the 1st 3 quarters.  I still watch it to that point every now and then.

Happy to see Shane get the HC job and hope he does well.  Definitely not a slam dunk but hopefully he's learned alot over the years.  Worked for many P5 programs so he's seen alot and hopefully picked up what he likes and wants to do as a HC.

Personally I think Shane is a better risk to take than Chadwell.  Don't know much about Chadwell but the conclusion in VT world is you need a coach who's seen how it's done at the P5 level.  Buyer's remorse for most on Fuente, although I don't know if he really was put in a position to succeed.  But ya'll aren't Hokies so I won't go any further unless asked.

Highly doubt Foster is coming back as DC.  I can only see that if Shane wants to play that style of defense and brings Bud in to install it and mentor someone to take over.

Interested to see who he brings in as OC and DC.  Goes without saying but getting those right is a key to his success.  Worked for Dabo, doesn't always work for others, ask Orgeron at LSU.

I'm going to start reading through the posts and following Gamecock football closely again now that Shane's there.  Alot of interest on the VT side to see how he does.  Go Gamecocks.

One good thing that Shane brings to the table is that he has been here before under SOS.  He has a ton of support fro former players too.

Thanks, Hokie!  I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do. One of my best friends grew up in Blacksburg, and his whole family worked for VT, and he’s really happy for Shane. He says he wished he would come to VT, but believes Shane didn’t want to be in his dad’s shadow.

Yeah - I don't think it would be good for him to be at VT unless the odds were pretty high he will succeed.  I think fanbase is split on Shane - not all was rosy while he was on his dad's staff.  VT has some organizational issues they need to work out that are probably impacting Fuente and could impact Beamer (I don't think he would come to VT until they were addressed).  I don't see these issues at USC.  Hopefully he is allowed the $ and flexibility to build a good staff, to me that's the key.  Then we see if he really can put together a top recruiting infrastructure at USC.  Everyone assumes recruiting will be a strength - I'm not so sure.

The more I hear think, more I feel this could be a great hire. All aboard the Beamer train.

I was torn after Saturday watching the Costal Game I  was beginning to have some second thoughts, but I think it's an good hire for us  the player support is a lot when you need ex players to help you in building the program back up that has not been there in a while.   I was one of the first to say he would be an great hire still think so today

Until he wins more than he loses, he will be highly scrutinized.
