How come all of a sudden we can make free throws at an 80% clip?

Random question while enjoying a 3-0 start and what is to come from Frank Martin teams. Did we just not practice them before or something? It's going to be a long year but this is the brand of basketball I want to support. The kids are getting after it, the offense doesn't completely suck monkey nuts (and we actually have a plan and strategy - attack the basket), and we defend, defend, defend. Makes me happy.

I was wondering the same thing. Of course, our free throw shooting didn't just suck under Horn. It was terrible under Odom also. I remember several big games that we would have won if we could have shot a mere 75% or so from the stripe. There is absolutely no reason why a college athlete can't make 3/4 of their free throws. Not to brag, but I once made 40 in a row. Shockingly, I didn't receive any scholarship offers. I blame it on my whiteboyitis (can't jump).

Good observation, I've thought the same thing.

Just a quick note: Lakeem Jackson still sucks at making free throws.

Therefore, our newfound success is probably a blend of new talent, maturity of the existing underclassmen plus Martin's emphasis on making FTs.

For the record, I thought Horn never took the free throw thing seriously. For that matter, one could argue he didn't take being head coach at South Carolina very seriously either.
