How did Will Muschamp do in August?

August 31, 2017

Even though the month of August is designated as a dead period by the NCAA, it didn’t slow down the South Carolina recruiting train.

The Gamecocks, like everyone else in the country, weren’t permitted any face-to-face contact with recruits, but they did pull in a pair of commitments in August.

At the beginning of the month, four 2018 prospects were identified as potential South Carolina commitments: 4-star wide receiver Josh Vann (Tucker, Ga.), 4-star cornerback Jaycee Horn (Alpharetta, Ga.), 3-star lineman Raiqwon O’Neal (Conway, S.C.) and 3-star guard Jovaughn Gwyn (Charlotte, N.C.).

Only one of the four, Vann, committed to the Gamecocks. Horn announced for Tennessee, during a broadcast in SEC Country’s studios. O’Neal committed to play offensive line at Rutgers. Gwyn has yet to make a decision, and plans to continue into September as an uncommitted prospect.

South Carolina opened with a commitment from former Auburn cornerback Marlon Character Jr., who announced on the first of the month. Vann pulled the trigger 17 days later.

Horn has left the door open for South Carolina and other schools, telling SEC Country that he would take his official visits, even though he is committed to Tennessee.
