I know I'm bordering on blasphemy for some folks who gauge our team's value based on how great the league is. However, I do now think the league is very good this year and I haven't thought that all year. I still think it's without a doubt the toughest league in the country, but in comparison to some other recent years, I don't think it matches up.
Alabama is playing for the national championship, and you don't get there without being very good. Not perfect this year, but still outstanding.
However, let's work down from them.
LSU had a good defense, a bad offense, and their coach still seems to have his head up his anus most of the time. A&M got better all year and I think will be a force in the future. Miss State was very over-rated - the only decent team they beat was Middle Tennessee. Ole Miss is improving but is still not very good. Arkansas and Auburn were horrible.
In the East, Georgia had a really good season other than the curb-stomping we gave them. Florida is good but was over-rated all year but had a favorable schedule that gave them LSU and South Carolina in Gainesville. They crapped the bed against Georgia and even worse than that in their bowl game. South Carolina had a great season and could've been even better but for a two game road trip in the middle. Vanderbilt had an great season, only losing to Northwestern and three teams ranked in the top ten. Missouri, Tennessee, and Kentucky were terrible.
Like I said, I still think the SEC is a great conference and very few if any teams from any other conference would run the table even in this weaker season. However, as we've seen in the bowl season so far, there weren't a bunch of dominant teams this year.
