How Will Muschamp shares 'inspirational stuff' with blue-chip defensive recruit
July 17, 2018
Powder Springs, Ga., safety Jaylen McCollough tweeted Monday he does not have a date set for a decision. There had been some online conjecture he would make the call next month, but McCollough said Monday night he wants to take official visits to his four finalists of USC, Tennessee, Auburn and Alabama before deciding.
“All four programs are great programs athletically and academic wise. It’s really hard to list a favorite right now,” McCollough said.
USC coach Will Muschamp continues to be out front among those recruiting McCollough.
“I actually talk to Coach Muschamp on the days we text back and forth,” McCollough said. “We text back and forth. He gives me some inspirational stuff to look at throughout the day. We really talk about life more than football. I feel like that’s good because once football ends all you have is the real world. Coach Muschamp along with (Tennessee) Coach Pruitt are the only two coaches who actually sit down and talk about life outside of football on the phone.”
And McCollough said that approach from those two coaches earns them bonus points.
“It shows that they care more about what type of man, what type of person I am, also the type of football player I am as well,” McCollough said. “That really plays a big factor to see that the head guy actually takes interest in you, he checks up on you to see how you’re doing. You know, little things go a long way in making a decision like this.”
McCollough is talking with his family regarding dates for his official visits. The trip he’s eyeing for USC is for the Georgia weekend.
“It’s a lot of hype surrounding that game,” he said. “I feel like, honest and truly, that South Carolina can pull that game out. That definitely will be one I’d like to go see.”
He has no favorite at the moment but McCollough said he plans to anoint one in August or September.
