Huge blow: UGA loses leading receiver to ACL tear
Just a couple of days ahead of one of the biggest games of the young season, Georgia has suffered a significant injury on the offensive side of the ball.
In a release, UGA confirmed that wide receiver Michael Bennett has a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the 2012 season. The redshirt sophomore suffered the injury toward the end of Thursday’s practice.
Surgery will be performed to repair the damage in his right knee at some point in the future.
Bennett currently leads the Bulldogs in receptions (24), receiving yards (345) and receiving touchdowns, so the loss is a significant blow to UGA’s offense.
No. 5 Georgia will face No. 6 South Carolina in a game pitting the two preseason SEC East favorites.
