With a roster full of young running backs, South Carolina’s coaches have the luxury of being a little more selective with their running back take in the 2018 class.
The Gamecocks have four freshmen running backs on the current roster. Two are first-year players: Rico Dowdle and C.J. Freeman. The others, Mon Denson and A.J. Turner, are redshirt freshmen.
When North Carolina transfer Ty’Son Williams is eligible to play in 2017, he’ll join Denson and Turner as redshirt sophomores. David Williams and Rod Talley, both of whom are redshirt juniors right now, have one more season of eligibility after 2016.
Former walk-on Darius Paulk is the lone senior in the group.
Three-star Kyshaun Bryan, the No. 27 running back in the class of 2017, will join the group when he graduates from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
In the latest edition of SEC Country’s SpursUp Surveillance, we take a look at several of the running back prospects on South Carolina’s radar for the 2018 signing class.
Zamir White – Scotland County High School (Laurinberg, N.C.)
White, who’s a 5-star and is ranked as the No. 1 running back in the country, visited South Carolina this past Saturday for the Gamecocks home opener against East Carolina.
Interest in South Carolina continues to rise, but there’s plenty of competition. In-state North Carolina is a serious player, but so are Clemson and Georgia.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound prospect is listed as the No. 4 overall prospect in the class of 2018.

Mataeo Durant – McCormick High School (McCormick, S.C.)
South Carolina has yet to offer the No. 52 ranked running back in the country, but he’s been to the school several times over the last couple of years, including last weekend’s game against East Carolina.
Durant, who owns one offer from Mississippi State, has been limited for much of this season with an ankle injury.

The 3-star prospect is the top-ranked running back from the state of South Carolina in 2018.
Shaun Shivers – Chaminade-Madonna High School (Hollywood, Fla.)
Shivers visited South Carolina in the summer with a handful of teammates from Chaminade-Madonna. Running backs coach Bobby Bentley was impressed with what he saw from Shivers.
The Gamecocks offered in May.
The 5-foot-7, 160-pound prospect is listed as the No. 6 all-purpose back in the class of 2018. Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina, TCU and West Virginia have also offered.

Master Teague III – Blackman High School (Murfreesboro, Tenn.)
After offering in May, South Carolina had Teague on campus in July for the cookout. Apparently, it went well.
The No. 29 ranked running back in the country also has offers from Tennessee, Louisville and Duke.
