This is something I have wondered a lot, but I don't know enough about playing QB to know the real answer..
ALL Spurrier talks about with his QBs is getting rid of the ball. I listen to every press conference he does, every post-practice report and all I have ever heard him say about the QB position is that they need to get rid of it. But he says it every damn time he is in front of a microphone. He even talks about how NFL QBs throw it into coverage and their receivers go up and make a play. He ALWAYS talks about giving the receivers a chance to make a play.
So with that being said, if you were Connor Shaw, and you had only thrown a couple of interceptions this year, why would you not go into a game like this one on Saturday and say to yourself "you know what, I am going to take my steps and throw it. I don't care if their is a receiver there or not, I am going to throw the ball. I am going to throw it without regard for what is going to happen until I get intercepted twice and then I will go from there. But by God, in the beginning of the game, I am going to take my drop and I am going to let it go."
I don't mean this is a knock on Shaw as it really could apply to any QB we have had.
I am just saying that if you had a boss that told you over and over and over and over and over to do ONE thing, wouldn't you eventually get to a point where you just did that one thing regardless of the outcome
But for those that actually know the position or played QB at a "higher" level, is that a lot easier said than done?
