IMG prospect reels in Gamecocks; 2019 prospect talks about offer

Another IMG offer out
On Wednesday night, South Carolina offered another 2018 prospect from IMG Academy: 4-star cornerback Houston Griffith.
Defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson first contacted the No. 7-ranked cornerback just days earlier.
“Coach Muschamp told me they’re rebuilding everything. They’re about to get things back to where they used to be when coach (Steve) Spurrier was there,” Griffith said.
He added, “They just told me they’re ready to get this thing ready to go and get it moving.”
Griffith, who’s originally from Chicago, will visit South Carolina next weekend when the group of prospects from IMG hits the road — 5-star defensive end Xavier Thomas is expected to be on board, too. The group will visit Clemson, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Georgia, Tennessee and Duke.
Last weekend, Griffith visited Notre Dame and Illinois. Florida State will host him this weekend.
“Narrowing down the list this summer and most likely to commit before the season or sometime during the season,” he said.
Ohio State is the favorite, according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball.
“Early playing time will be a big priority,” Griffith said, “(And) the academics and the degree I can earn, connections I’ll have.”
South Carolina first to offer
South Carolina defensive line coach Lance Thompson texted the news to Savion Jackson.
The 6-foot-3, 245-pound defensive end from Clayton (N.C.) High School received his first offer, and it was from the Gamecocks.
“I was very surprised; me getting offered as a 10th-grader just shows how much they believe in me as a person and player,” Jackson said. “They have been talking to me for a while.”
South Carolina will host him on Saturday for junior day.
“Well, I already heard the best thing — about the offer,” he said, when asked about this weekend’s trip.
“But I get to see them practice on Saturday; that would be great to see the players.”
N.C. State had him on campus recently. Charlotte is also expected to score a visit.
“I describe myself as high-motor player,” Jackson said. “I get after it. Don’t want to brag, but I’m pretty fast. I play with everything I got and I play every down 100 percent.”
