In-state safety R.J.  Roderick, a 6-foot, 207-pound prospect from Cane Bay High School (Summerville, S.C.), committed to the Gamecocks over offers from Duke, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and North Carolina State.

“I grew up more on the South Carolina side, but when you grow up in South Carolina, you always envision yourself playing for either Clemson or South Carolina,”

“To have that opportunity is something big.”

A triple-option quarterback at Cane Bay, Georgia Tech offered Roderick at the position. Some schools were recruiting him to play wide receiver. Clemson was in the midst of evaluating him as a running back.

The Gamecocks entered June with seven commitments in the 2018 class, three of whom are from in-state recruits: 3-star defensive end Tyreek Johnson, 3-star wide receiver Darius Rush and 3-star center Hank Manos.

Roderick is ranked as the No. 15 overall prospect in the state, according to the 247Sports composite.
