The news on the injuries and illnesses was certainly much better on Thursday than it was 24 hours before. Defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward says all but one of his players on defense should be ready to go on Saturday against third-ranked Florida.
“Jimmy (Legree) will play. (Byron) Jerideau will play. J.T. (Surratt) moved around well. We’ll see how he and Jerideau feel after this practice. They both practiced today. If they feel good after that, they’ll both play, too.”
In addition to the three above, defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has also been limited in practice this week. He did not practice prior the LSU game at all but did play against the Tigers and registered six tackles.
“His foot is bothering him a little bit, but he’ll be fine.”
Sophomore Kelcy Quarles (shoulder sprain/possible suspension), senior Byron Jerideau (ankle) and sophomore J.T. Surratt (ankle) have all been either out of practice or limited in the buildup to Saturday’s game against the third-ranked Gators (6-0, 5-0).
Clowney (foot) missed practice all of last week and has missed some time this week as well. Defensive end Devin Taylor is the only starting defensive lineman who is fully healthy entering the game.
Junior Marcus Lattimore has been limited this week but he also practiced on Thursday afternoon, which is the team’s final full day of game preparations. The team does have a short walkthrough on Friday before the flight to Gainesville, Fla.
Quarles won’t play - Quarles, who has been out of practice this week with a sprained shoulder, has been suspended and will not travel this weekend to Florida. The suspension was levied by the school, not the conference, because of a punch thrown in the first quarter of Saturday’s game against LSU.
