Israel Mukuamu details South Carolina commitment in heartfelt letter
December 09, 2017
I’m ready to come home.
I would like to say thank you to the Berkeley family. Thank you Berkeley High School for giving me an amazing three years and starting my recruiting process. Thank you to Parkway High School for giving me an amazing senior year and finishing my recruiting process.
First, I would like to say thank you to my family for being here throughout this process, through the ups and downs. I’m ready to come back home to the University of South Carolina.
To Darius Douglas, OrTre Smith, Dakereon Joyner and R.J. Roderick, I’m coming to join the family.
That’s just my comfort zone. At first, it was Florida State, but God showed me that’s not where he wants me to be. After that, my heart led me to South Carolina. Everything about South Carolina, it just felt right.
The home visit on Monday with Coach [Will] Muschamp and Coach T-Rob [Travaris Robinson] meant a lot. That’s when I knew. Coach Muschamp coming all the way down to Louisiana, to come see me, it just said a lot about how they really wanted me.
Lastly, to all of the coaches at other schools who recruited me, thank you.
Just being able to come back home and having the opportunity to start as a freshman on a big stage is an opportunity that I could not pass up on. I know this in my heart: It’s the place for me.
To the South Carolina fans, I’m going to come into this program and give it all I’ve got. I expect myself and I want you guys to expect me to be the best cornerback this program has ever seen. And, by God’s grace, hopefully leading South Carolina to an SEC championship and also to a national championship.
