Yes, the bile thrown their way at every conference away game for 4 years will be unrivalled. So are they really going to play 4 years in the Big12 after announcing their intent to leave? That will be awkward.
I seriously doubt it. I believe they will be in the SEC next season, but 2023 at the latest. So are they really going to play 4 years in the Big12 after announcing their intent to leave? That will be awkward.
I said the same thing in another thread ... teams like CSU, Fresno State and Boise State are $%^&ed.Will be very interesting to see how this all plays out with other Power 5 conferences.
I wonder if this will have any effect on the smaller conferences like the Mountain West, American Athletic, Conference USA, MAC and Sunbelt. Would any of those conferences join forces to make a larger non-Power 5 conference? I don't think they would have much play in the CFP and championship, but can they survive going forward with their current model?
I like this if it happens - certainly gives mid-majors a reason to keep going.I read one article, I've read so many lately that I can't remember which one was which, that I agree with. I think you will wind up with three levels of football, and three national championships. There will be the big boy conferences or league, the middle of the road, like Coastal, San Diego State, Boise State, and then your lower level like Furman, North Dakota State and others. I think there will be a playoff for each level.
I have read that all of this was planned and orchestrated, and isn't over, yet.
Time will tell. I hope it all works out for the best, but if it doesn't, it'll be alright. I've learned that I can do without a lot of things I thought I needed.
<grumble>I have said this all along with the addition of conferences adding E$PN+. They just raised the price another $1. per month to $7.99 in late August, just in time for .............football. No one believes this will be the end price point.
CFN There’s a giant X factor in all of this. TV might not exist by 2025 – and I’m not being flippant. You have to go online or a streaming service to watch most of the Olympics live, and don’t think for a second that you’re not going to have to drop at least $7.99 a month to watch a bulk of the new SEC content once the league expands to 16. CFN today.

We will need to see what the buyout would be to understand how/if they could leave earlier than 2025 ... given the SEC's almost unlimited capital it could certainly happen though?I don’t see this waiting until 2025, the SEC is to diligent when looking into theses things. As a conference why would you try to hold 2 schools that don’t want to be there, make them come to meetings and try to make them vote on things that could effect the schools you do have. Personally I see this being the last year for TX and OK in the conference. After the season things will become clear and we will get the actual look as to what the SEC will look like. They won’t discuss it until February though as not to distract from the current season.
