Javon Kinlaw remains top priority for South Carolina coach Will Muschamp

Jan. 12, 2017

Four-star junior college defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw remains a priority for South Carolina coach Will Muschamp.

On Thursday, the first day of the contact period, Muschamp and defensive line coach Lance Thompson will meet with Kinlaw around 11 a.m. (CST) at Jones County Junior College in Mississippi.

The two coaches met with Kinlaw’s mother earlier that morning.

Kinlaw, who was once committed to South Carolina, will take three official visits this month before announcing a decision on Jan. 31.

Southern Cal is up first. Alabama will get the second crack, followed by South Carolina, on the final weekend of the month.

The Gamecocks are in the lead.

“It’s just all about communication,” Kinlaw told Phil Kornblut. “That’s what it is, that’s what it is for me.”

Kinlaw, the No. 12 overall JUCO prospect in the class of 2017, is also listed as the No. 1-ranked strong-side defensive end.

South Carolina landed a commitment from Kinlaw during his senior year at Goose Creek (S.C.) High School.

In the fall, two days before South Carolina played at Mississippi State, Thompson made a stop to watch Kinlaw play.
