4 star DL DJ Jones 6'3" 310lbs of East Mississippi JC will be heading to his home in upstate South Carolina Tuesday for the holiday break, and while in the state he plans to drive down to Columbia for a visit with USC. Jones said he does not know which day he will make the visit. He talked with USC recruiter and defensive line coach Deke Adams Monday.
Jones currently is committed to Florida State and plans to visit there Saturday for the Boston College game. He will take an official visit to Ole Miss for the Egg Bowl, and he’s also considering Alabama and Auburn. He would like to take a visit to Alabama. He’s been officially to Auburn and might get back there again as well. Jones said he’s no longer hearing from Clemson so the Tigers aren’t a factor.
USC has been a constant with Jones throughout the recruiting process and he realizes there’s a big need there for players at his position.
“As far as them losing every D-tackle they’ve got, the opportunity for me to come in and play, that’s pretty much the reason they are still in the boat,” Jones said. “I’ve stayed in contact with them and they’ve explained to me how bad they need, not just me, but junior college defensive tackles, but I’m the main target.”
Jones said after Florida State, which remains on top of is list, he couldn’t rank the others in any particular order.
The mid-year signing period for junior college players enrolling in January starts December 17th. Jones said he expects to sign with a couple of days after the beginning of the signing period.
This season Jones has 28 tackles with 4 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss. His team will play for the junior college national championship on December 6th.
