4 star DL DJ Jones 6'3" 310lbs of East Mississippi JC via Wren High School has taken official visits to Florida State, to whom he is committed, and USC, and he’s looking at Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss and West Virginia for his other visits.

“I’ve been talking to my parents about taking some other official visits,” Jones said. He had planned to take an unofficial visit to Florida State for the Clemson game last month but didn’t make it, but he does plan to go back to Tallahassee for the Notre Dame game.

As for USC and Clemson, Jones remains in regular contact with each.

“I talked to USC a few days ago, coach Adams,” Jones said. “He’s telling me the same things, that they are going to work me hard and try to get me. He feels like that’s a good p;lace for me. I talked to Clemson about a week ago, coach Hobby. They want me home and they are stressing that they are losing most of their inside guys and there will be an open slot. As of right now, I’m committed to Florida State. It’s not any kind of soft, medium or hard, but if today was signing day, I’d be signing with Florida State. But, I’m weighing my options.”

On a side note, Jones shared his take on his teammate, former Clemson quarterback Chad Kelly. Monday, Columbia sportstalk show host Jonathan Reynolds tweeted that USC should recruit Kelly because of his dual threat ability, not to mention the idea of him playing against his former school. Kelly responded to that tweet with his own: “wouldn’t that be fun…Would Love To!!!”

“He wants to go to South Carolina on an official,” Jones said. “You put two and two together. He ain’t a selfish player like, I want to play against Clemson. He feels like South Carolina would be a good fit for him seeing how they lose Dylan Thompson. He’ll go anywhere where they allow their quarterback to throw the ball and have the option to run it. As far as I know it’s Ole Miss and Tennessee, that’s all I know.” Jones said he’s not aware of any interest by USC in Kelly and Kelly hasn’t told him of any contact.

East Mississippi is 6-0 and the #1 ranked junior college team in the country. The Lions average over 560 yards and 59 points per game. Kelly has passed for 2051 yards with 24 touchdowns and 4 interceptions while completing 69% of his passes. He’s also rushed for 199 yards and 2 scores.

As for Jones, he has 14 tackles with 1 sack and 4 tackles for loss. Another teammate, DL Dante Sawyer, a USC commitment, has 13 tackles with 3 sacks and 7 tackles for loss.
