JUCO d-lineman Jabari Ellis visits South Carolina
Feb. 26, 2017
Jabari Ellis, a rising sophomore defensive tackle from Georgia Military College, was among the prospects on campus at South Carolina on Saturday.
The 6-foot-2, 280-pound JUCO prospect who’s originally from Lake Marion High School in Santee, S.C., was offered by the Gamecocks earlier this month.
Saturday’s trip went well.
“I finally put a picture to the program, with the different things going on with the coaching staff,” Ellis said.
They certainly made him feel welcome. Before heading for home with his mother, Ellis spoke with coach Will Muschamp and defensive line coach Lance Thompson.
“I had a meeting with coach Muschamp (Saturday),” Ellis said. “He was just telling me – ever since my senior year of high school, that was my first time meeting him and he’s been interested since then – he was just telling me how important it was to become a Gamecock.”
“(Thompson) was just happy I was there. I could tell, they love me there at USC. He was telling me, by the time I get in there, there will be three or four guys graduating, and how he wants me to automatically compete for a starting spot.”
All of that, Ellis added, was good to hear.
“It’s pretty big, especially having a great program in my home state, so that’s real big,” he said.
Ellis has no other visit plans this spring, but he does hope to return to South Carolina for the spring game.
As a freshman at GMC, he 14 tackles and a sack over 11 games.
