JUCO DT Jabari Ellis returns to South Carolina for camp, sets future visits

June 04, 2017

Junior college defensive tackle Jabari Ellis hadn’t planned on participating in the Will Muschamp Football Camp during his trip to South Carolina on Saturday.

But Muschamp and defensive line coach Lance Thompson wanted to see how well Ellis moved, so they put him through the paces during the first half of camp.

“Actually, Coach Thompson taught me a couple of things 1-on-1. I just got the feel for the type of coach he is,” Ellis said. “I just realized he knows a lot of stuff. He knows a lot of things, what he’s talking about.”

Ellis was measured at 6-foot-2, 276 pounds. He ran the 40-yard-dash in 4.9 seconds, jumped 30 inches in the vertical and registered 9 feet, 8 inches in the broad jump.

Saturday was his third trip to South Carolina since landing an offer earlier this year.

“It went well, just getting to the campus again, that’s always a great thing,” Ellis said.

Next weekend, Ellis is scheduled to visit North Carolina State. He’s also making arrangements to check out Colorado.

Ellis, who’s ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 11 overall JUCO prospect in the Class of 2018, plans to announce his decision in July.
