USC reportedly will not sign one of the top commitments in its 2016 class Wednesday, but RB Tyren Jones of Hutchinson JC, KS is still planning to join the program.
According to JC Shurburtt of TheBigSpur, Jones will not be signed by the Gamecocks Wednesday for academic reasons. Shurburtt cited sources for his information.
Jones later confirmed that information for Josh Kendall of The State, but he also told Kendall he will graduate in May and sign with USC this summer.
Jones said he has been in contact with Will Muschamp and the Gamecocks’ head coach still wants him to enroll this summer.
Jones, a native of Marietta, GA, signed with Alabama out of high school before being dismissed from the program.
The loss of Jones for now puts USC back at 22 newcomers for the 2016 roster and leaves the Gamecocks with two running backs in the class.
