Key points from Coach Beamer post game presser vs. Kentucky

Sept. 26, 2021

Beamer: I'm very proud of our players' effort. I hope our fans see how hard they're playing. Now we have to help them as coaches to get better

Beamer on Luke Doty: Poised and able to communicate between series. This was his first start of the season. He needs to play better but he gave us a chance to win tonight. Just needs to grow and mature as a QB

Beamer on UK's TD drive: We were misfitting on the run early on and that led to their touchdown. We adjusted and did a better job but we still have to do a better job of pushing guys back and not letting the RB fall forward

HC Beamer on getting 0 points on 3 turnovers: When you win the turnover margin in consecutive games but lose both of them, that's frustrating. With our defense giving us the ball and great field position, we have to capitalize

Beamer: Hard to win when you go 3 of 12 on 3rd down and running just 51 plays .... Kept going for it b/c defense kept bailing us out and at some point, we've got to convert a 3rd down or 4th down and finish w/a touchdown

Blah blah blah.

"We tried really hard."  "We have to do better."  "Nothing is anyone's fault."

Sincerely hope he's having very different discussion with his coaching staff, especially Satterfield, Adkins and Hardesty. They are letting us down.

WatchESPN didn't work for me, so I just flopped on the bed and listened to the game on the radio since I was tired from doing yard work.

I thought our play-calling was too one-dimensional and conservative in the first half.

So I grabbed something to eat at halftime and it's on to the 3rd quarter on the radio.

I was pretty excited after Doty led us down the field for the score in the 3rd, but then we got stripped on the fumble recovery and I turned the game off after UK made their next FG.

I remember thinking at the time that our play-calling in the first half probably was going to cost us this game.  I also wondered if Doty would break his trend since he's played here of not generating more than one TD in a game.

So I watched a DVD to get my sanity back and googled the game after it was over and saw the 16-10 final score, which justified my decision to quit listening to the game in the 3rd quarter.

Not going to blame any of the players.  IF the coaching staff is doing all they can with our current team then it is what it is.  Hopefully we get better as the season goes on.  Play calling needs to improve, 1st half was pretty pathetic. Answer to how good we'll be in the future depends on recruiting.

I'm not going to armchair quarterback our play last night. I think people expect too much from this team and our staff. We're climbing out of the Muschamp malaise and it's going to take awhile. We just need to win enough this year to help with recruiting. All I heard all week was how explosive the UK offense has become yet we held them to one touchdown. I hate losing as much as anyone, but I'm going to be patient this year and hope we get better as the year progresses.

When his answer becomes….”I’ll have to look at the film”…..then I’ll start to be hyper concerned.  Hyper concerned is above the bigly concerned state I’ve been in for a couple of 5 years.

Agreed.  I was pretty frustrated during the game but cooled off and returned to being as rational as possible after.  Its not going to happen quickly and I don't think all of this team's problems can be fixed in a few games.  It will take a couple recruiting cycles and some luck on the OL.  Doty has to continue to get healthy.  WRs need to come along and situational play calling needs improvement.  We were much more successful running the ball with Bobo's schemes than we have been in this one (obviously) so we might want to be patient there as well.  The D played pretty good I thought and kept us in position to win it.

Well, right now we have the same record (2 and 2) as Clemson and North Carolina.  It's still pretty early to know which teams are for real. Once we get to the mid-season point we'll know a lot more. Win or lose, I'm a Gamecock fan and enjoy watching them play.

Signing off for awhile. I'm tired of all the negative posts.

Well said I keep saying we don't have the Jimmie and Joe's  to play the X and o's

My only concern was that you have the number one ranked quarterback in the country on an official visit and you try to run up the middle, over and over. Show him a wide open offense and throws down field. Hope we did not loose him in the first half.
