Javon Kinlaw
The season is over for USC commitment DL Javon Kinlaw of Jones County JC, MS and soon his short stay junior college will be as well. Kinlaw committed  to Will Muschamp last December with the two knowing he would not qualify. Kinlaw then enrolled at Jones County in January to expedite his arrival at USC which will happen this May. The early enrollment also only cost him one year of eligibility with the Gamecocks.

Earlier this week Kinlaw said he remains firmly committed to the Gamecocks despite the onrush of interest from other major schools.  But he does plan to take other official visits because he never had the chance to do so as a high school senior.  It’s an experience he wants to enjoy.

“I’m going to take one to South Carolina definitely and might take one to Alabama, Maryland, Tennessee and Louisville, that’s who have offered me,” Kinlaw said.  “It (the commitment) is still strong.  I just never had the chance to have an official visit coming out of high school.  I just want to see what it’s like, go places.  They know I’m still a kid.  I didn’t have that chance, I just want to have that chance like everybody else.”

Asked if there’s anything he might see elsewhere that might turn him from USC, Kinlaw replied, “Nah, probably not man.  I’ve been committed for too long.  They just talk about me coming in and playing.  I talk to Coach Thompson every day and to Coach Muschamp every day.  Communication is there.”

Kinlaw went to Jones as a defensive end but he’s grown into a defensive tackle and now weighs 305 pounds on his 6-7 frame.  He expects to report to USC at around 295 pounds.

In eight games this season Kinlaw recorded 26 tackles with 4.5 sacks and 4 tackles for loss.
