Nigel Knott

In the 2016 recruiting class, CB Nigel Knott (5-11 185) of Madison, MS was one of the top prospects in the country at his position. He was rated a four-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite and ranked the #8 corner in the country. As such, Knott was hotly recruited and eventually signed with Alabama. He redshirted in 2016 and played in 12 games over the next two seasons until a enlarged heart forced Alabama to put him on a medical scholarship.

Knott went thru nearly seven months of testing and was eventually cleared by doctors to return to football. He transferred to East Carolina as a grad transfer for this season but contracted Covid and did not participate with the team. And he is now back in the Transfer Portal. South Carolina is one of the programs he’s talking with.

“I’ve been talking to them and they are a possibility,” Knott said.  “Most Power Five teams I feel like are waiting until after their bowl game, and they are dealing with coaching changes and they are dealing with players declaring early. And they also don’t know who is going to enter the Portal.  But they actually told me that they are very interested but they also want to see how the cards fall.  I was told to follow coach (Shane) Beamer, but the person I was talking to was coach Drew Hughes. They told me they already know that I can play, and they are fighting for me.”

Knott said he has visited USC in the past for a game, and he also stopped by to check out the campus recently on his drive back home to Mississippi.

“I really like it.  It’s not too far from Greenville,” Knott said.  “I went there for a game and went for a tour there.  I really liked the environment.  The city didn’t seem like there was too much going that could lead you off our path.  It looks like a great opportunity honestly.”

Knott said along with USC, NC State and Cal were showing some strong interest, and he’s also heard from Florida.
