Dawn Staley, South Carolina pick up former McDonald’s All-American transfer

May 06, 2019

South Carolina women’s basketball has once again dipped into the transfer market, as Dawn Staley received a commitment from former Texas guard Destiny Littleton.

Staley hinted at the news in a tweet early Sunday, Littleton tweeted a picture of herself in a South Carolina uniform Monday, and Littleton’s high school coach and mentor, Marlon Wells.

As a sophomore at Texas, Littleton averaged 8.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game, playing 33 contests while starting 12 and shooting 39.7 percent from the field and 32.2 percent from 3.

Solid pick-up. We recruited her from the outset, and she initially committed and signed to Southern Cal, being from CA, but when the head coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke resigned, she was allowed to re-open her recruitment, and Texas ended up being the lucky suiter. As a prep player, Littleton became the all-time career scorer for girl's basketball, passing legends like Cheryl Miller, Diana Taurasi, Lisa Leslie, Candice Wiggins and Charde Houston along the way.

IMO, Littleton looks like a similar scoring guard to Te'a Cooper - same scoring mentality, same physical, driving game - but with a slightly better perimeter shot. I understand that we will petition the NCAA to give Littleton a waiver and let her play immediately.....
