One of the state’s top prospects in the 2016 class is 4 star DB James Valdez (6-1 195) of Lake Marion. He already has offers from USC, Tennessee, North Carolina, NC State and South Carolina State, and there will be more.
“He’s starting to pick up momentum,” Lake Marion coach Chris Carter said. “It’s hard to say on a leader. He’s going to be one of those who weighs all of his options. I want him to make his decision next summer.”
Valdez camped at USC, Clemson, NC State, North Carolina and Florida State. Oregon is also showing interest in him.
Carter said Valdez is a true corner but could develop into a safety in college. “He’s very explosive and very aware of the game,” Carter said. “I compare his game to a Deion Sanders. He has a knack for making big plays.”
Valdez had two interceptions in his team’s season opening game against Orangeburg-Wilkinson. Last season he had 51 tackles and broke up seven passes.
Carter has two other \prospects in junior LB Donta Evans (6-2 235) and sophomore Davondre Robinson. Evans has an offer from UAB and Robinson has been offered by North Carolina.
