Latest AP poll: USC moves into top three, Clemson drops a spot (complete top 25)

USC is ranked third in the latest AP top 25 poll that was released Sunday. It is the highest the Gamecocks have been ranked since 1984. Carolina is 6-0 and coming off a 35-7 drubbing of then fifth ranked Georgia Saturday night in Columbia.

This week the Gamecocks travel to number nine LSU. The Bengal Tigers are coming off a 14-6 loss at Florida Saturday. The Gators are fourth in this week’s poll. USC will play be in Gainesville a week from Saturday to close out their tough three game slate.

Alabama was idle this weekend and continues to hold the top spot. Oregon is second.

Despite a 47-31 home win over Georgia Tech Saturday, Clemson dropped one spot to 16th in this week’s ranking. The Tigers are off this week and return to action a week from Saturday at home against 3-3 Virginia Tech.

Other AP poll notes:

  • Saturday night’s loss to USC dropped Georgia nine spots to 14th.
  • The SEC has three teams in the top five and four in the top ten. The conference has seven ranked teams (Bama, USC, UF, LSU, GA, Miss. State, Texas A &M).
  • Florida State dropped from third to 12th following a stunning one point loss at N.C. State. The Seminoles are still the highest ranked team in the ACC. Clemson is the only other ACC team ranked this week.
