Latest Gamecocks scholarship count includes wiggle room

COLUMBIA, S.C. — According to the latest unofficial count by SEC Country, the 2018 South Carolina football team has 81 players on scholarship.
The Gamecocks are permitted to have 85 scholarship players, so several spots are available.
Counted among the players on the team’s official roster are both graduate transfer commitments: Rice safety J.T. Ibe and Kent State kicker Shane Hynes.
Defensive lineman Aaron Thompson and defensive back Antoine Wilder are no longer listed on South Carolina’s official website, both of whom were mentioned as departures last week by coach Will Muschamp.
The Gamecocks roster still includes linebacker Davonne Bowen, who confirmed to SEC Country that he is retiring from football.
