2 star LB Jonathan Walton 6'1" 228 of Mobile, AL made his official visit to USC over the weekend and found everything to his liking. "I enjoyed it," Walton said. "It was a new experience. I liked very bit of it. The fans got to me real well. I had people knowing who I was just walking around." Walton spent a lot of time talking with defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward and linebackers coach Kirk Botkin. "They're going to be put me at outside linebacker," he said. Walton has not made a final decision, however. "I'm still thinking things over," he said. "I'm going to Auburn next week and will announce a few days after that visit." Tennessee is the only other school he's still considering. "I'm going to stay in the SEC," he said." Tennessee will visit Walton Monday and Ward and Botkin will be in on Wednesday. USC LB target Jonathan Walton

USC LB target 2 star Jonathan Walton 6'1" 228lbs of Mobile, AL met Monday night with Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn who was making his in home visit. Walton will make his official visit to Auburn this weekend. He visited USC last weekend and was favoring the Gamecocks coming out of that visit. Walton is also considering Tennessee which he visited a couple of weeks ago. He plans to sign with one of those three SEC teams. USC's Lorenzo Ward and Kirk Botkin are scheduled to visit Wednesday. Gamecock head coach Steve Spurrier plans to make his in home visit next week.

Gamecock coaches meet with Walton

USC recruiters Lorenzo Ward and Kirk Botkin paid a visit to 2 star LB Jonathan Walton 6'1" 228lbs of Mobile, AL Wednesday in an effort to keep the Gamecocks in the race for the former Penn State commitment. They met with him at his school and later watched him train. "It went pretty good," said Walton who visited USC last weekend. "We have a good relationship." USC head coach Steve Spurrier plans to visit him next week. Auburn coach Gus Malzhan was in Monday and Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze visited Tuesday. Mississippi State and Minnesota also were in this week. Walton will visit Auburn this weekend, and he does so with no favorite. He had USC out front after that visit but said now he has a top three of USC, Tennessee and Auburn with no leader. "It depends on how my visit goes as to when I'll make my decision," he said adding he might take an unofficial visit to Ole Miss. His mother will go with him to Auburn which is about three hours from his home. Walton said distance isn't a factor in his decision but what is a factor is that he grew up in South Alabama wanting to play for Auburn or Alabama. "I grew up around the Iron Bowl and my dream was to always play in it," Walton said.

LB Jonathan Walton 6'1" 228lbs of Mobile, AL made his official visit to Auburn over the weekend and he told Auburn websites Sunday afternoon he is split between USC and the Tigers. He plans to discuss things this week with his family before making a decision. Walton visited USC last weekend and had the Gamecocks out front after that trip. But he said before the Auburn visit playing in the Iron Bowl has been a lifelong dream. USC head coach Steve Spurrier will make his in home visit this week. Walton gets visit from Spurrier

USC head coach Steve Spurrier and linebackers coach Kirk Botkin met Monday with linebacker target Jonathan Walton 6'1" 228lbs of Mobile, AL. "It was pretty good," Walton said of the meeting. "I talked to him up there (on his official visit) and I had a good time with him down here too, him and coach Botkin." Walton, who visited Auburn over the weekend, said he's still 50-50 between the two schools and plans to have a decision later this week.

Spurrier meets with another LB target

Monday USC head coach Steve Spurrier made an in person visit with LB target 2 star Jonathan Walton 6'1" 228lbs of Mobile, AL. He is choosing between the Gamecocks and Auburn. Tuesday afternoon, Spurrier was in Jacksonville to meet with LB target Tyrell Lyons according to First Coast High School head coach Marty Lee. Lyons has been committed to Florida State but visited USC last weekend. Walton and Lyons are two of four linebackers USC is still recruiting. The commitment watch on the bay in Daphne, AL continues today for 2 star LB Jonathan Walton 6'1" 228lbs. The Bayside Academy (the school sits right on the bay) standout is trying to decide between being a linebacker at USC or a fullback at Auburn. The decision could come around mid-afternoon today. Or it may not. "Hopefully it will be today but I'm not sure," said Walton's coach Phil Lazenby. "Before his trip to Auburn (last weekend) he said South Carolina probably was his top choice. South Carolina is different, it's a place away. But he said Auburn, if I live in the state of Alabama, I'll have more state recognition. And the position deal does not matter." Walton met with Auburn's new offensive coordinator Tuesday. USC coach Steve Spurrier was in on Monday. "Coach Spurrier came the other day and it was a pleasure talking to him," the coach said. "He was nothing but a gentleman and Jonathan was impressed. Same thing with Auburn. As soon as he tells me, we're going to call the school he did not pick because everybody has been so nice. He'll have lunch in a couple of hours but he may not have made a decision." If there is a decision, Lazenby said he will get the word out to the media soon after contacting the schools.

Walton watch spills over to Thursday

Wednesday has passed without a decision from LB Jonathan Walton 6'1" 228lbs of Daphne, AL, but his coach is hopeful of a decision Thursday between USC and Auburn. "Hopefully he's talked to his mom some more and maybe he'll decide," coach Phil Lazenby said. "I talked to him at lunch and he just said it's so hard. He said it is so hard. And I can understand." Tennessee has been talking to Walton as well and is planning to come to the school tomorrow, Lazenby said, even though Walton told them not to come. Lazenby plans to visit with Walton around 10:15 AM Thursday to see if a decision has been made.

Walton has made his decision

LB Jonathan Walton 6'1" 228lbs of Daphne, AL has made his decision between USC and Auburn his coach said moments ago. Phil Lazenby knows the decision but isn't saying. And neither is Walton right now. "He really wants to call the team he's not chosen and he's going to call when he gets home tonight," Lazenby said. "Both schools will know tonight who he is choosing. He's so excited. He's smiling from ear to ear. He's not trying to be coy. He will call both schools." The coach was not sure on an exact time the calls will happen. USC has been recruiting Walton as a linebacker while Auburn is recruiting him as a H-Back.

 
Walton indicates a USC commitment

LB Jonathan Walton 6'1" 228lbs of Daphne, AL indicated Sunday night he plans to sign with USC Wednesday. On Twitter, Walton wrote the following: "looks like ill be joining @MoCamara3 at our new home!!! #gamecocknation." Walton has been deciding between USC and Auburn. A source last week said he thought Walton would end up choosing the Gamecocks.
